Shalene Mixter

Steetlights - Poem by Shalene Mixter

Streetlights
Bright, dim and glowing
Built strongly in cement
Although if crashed into, easily bent
Made of strong metals and painted shining
But those covers are binding
Of the inner core that lights it

Bulbs dim but bright against the night sky
Starred in a life full of lies
I lay under my streetlight protected
From the darkness that has infected
But one day when my bulb goes out
I'll be vulnerable and be filled with doubt
