The Pensive Page - Poem by Ian Jobst

When you see these words,
Written upon this page,
You see not,
The inner war that dost wage.

You simply see verses written
To a rhythmic beat
You never pay homage,
To the tear soaked sheet

So please allow me to be the one to say
That until the day
That this ink turns grey
None shall know as well as we
That these words alone can set us free

Perhaps now, the next time you ready poetry
You will finally see
Verses written, to a rhythmic beat upon a page
You'll know it's not simply artistic
But the cathartic war that we wage
Born from the facade
Of a pensive page
