United States Of Mind - Poem by Jesse Maizlish

Most of us
have already turned
away from the green heart
of the old
land to this new
crescent on its rim, where
balancing comes
less easily.
And country people always
talk,
wistfully,
of taking their holidays
by the sea,
even when the
sea is a thousand miles
away.
I have always felt both are
deserving
of a more profound retreat.
