A Prayer

Rating: 4.5

There's nothing more I want to do
Than hold you close, close to my breast
So you can feel my thudding heart
And hear the pounding in my chest
There's nothing more I want to do
Than have you look into my eyes
And see the truth that's there to see
That'll sweep away unconvincing lies
There's nothing more I want to do
Than have you gently take my hand
And tell me 'love, we'll see this through
We'll find the courage to take a stand'
There's nothing more I want to do
Than have you as lover and best friend
And tell you 'sweetheart, just hang on
What we share just cannot end'.
There's so much I want to say,
You're in my dreams, my hopes, my life
I don't want to be a lone bystander,
I want to share your world, as your wife
But sadly dearest, it's not my choice,
Things are not as I want them to be
So I'm settling for the ear of God,
To ask His blessings as I set you free
He'll send an angel to stand by you
To watch you close at every step,
And I'll wait this lifetime out in hope
Or find you in another, after death.
