Another Mile - Poem by Ankur Bhasin
Only when miles separate us, you’ll sit
And ponder all I used to do,
And I’ll pray to God, “Please add another mile to it”
So that more you’ll know, all I did was love you.
Only when I’m gone miles away
On the paths that never return,
Will you know how much my stay
Would have meant, but time will not turn.
Only when like a dead leaf I crumble down,
Like a handful of sand I mix to the earth,
Only then, maybe, you’ll stop to frown
And think of me, and know my real worth.
Only when like an angel I drift high
And you fill up tear-cups, cup after cup,
You tell me then, my each single lie -
Wasn’t it all to cheer you up?
Only when I’m so far that I cannot turn
And your tears wash away all my faults, you’ll see
And you’ll know what inside of me once did burn;
You’ll know you were all that meant to me.
Only when like a wish I float to the heavens above,
I will smile down and ask you,
“How much do you know of my love? ”
Then, maybe, you’ll know I really loved you.
Only when like a vision I do vanish,
Like a withered flower I fall away
And will not return, I’ll stop and make a wish
That at last you do understand me – all the way.
Only when your eyes cease to see this heat,
I go far away and shine like a star,
Your heart will hear my dead heart’s faint beat
And you’ll know how much pain it is to be far.
Only when I break all these ties loose
And fly free, away from you, from all,
Maybe then you’ll not have to choose –
Whether to remember, hate or forget it all.
Only when all you can see of me is a star,
You’ll look at me in heavens and smile;
I’ll be miles and miles, so very far,
But I’ll get the power to climb another mile.
Only before I fall down like a withering flower,
I’ll close my eyes and pray for a while
That to all this I thought, God you’ll give the power
That it is not lost in the common road of life – like another mile.
