He Was Good With Snakes, Spiders, Creatures... - Poem by Loke Kok yee

Friends remembered he was good,
With snakes, spiders, creatures...
But not so with the girls,
Which was what really matters.
Far too short and skinny,
Unlikely to raise any interest.
And it was of little help,
With his face full of pimples.
Even his academic performance,
Was less than what was desired.
In any sports he ventures,
He'll be relegated to the benches.
Tried his hand in scouting,
But got no more than two badges.
Such a sorry state was he,
He then started talking to animals.
Little wonder then he was good,
With snakes, spiders, creatures...

i read again, but i still liked it! i just read another poem, by Is It Poetry, The Shore Of The Sea Smelled Of Me, which contains this:

doesn't everyone want someone who Care's about them,
want to speak? ................which reminds me of this part of Valsa's comment, below, : To love someone or something and to be loved in turn is a natural human instinct! ..... i think so also.

though i am the self-professed king of humor/humour on PH, i find it hard to find humour in this poem. hmm?
dark humor of some sort? you listed life and humour as topics of the poem.

when done reading, my first thought was “spooky”. I see Simone wrote “haunting”.

and Valsa wrote: “To love someone or something and to be loved in turn is a natural human instinct! Interesting write, Loke! ” ……..i tend to agree. maybe that’s why I have had four wives? or maybe I wanted a cook? ?

I almost cringe when I hear someone say something like “Oh, what a cute child you have! ”, especially when another (less “cute”, or even ‘homely’ or ‘ugly’) child …or adult is listening. after all, not all people can be as PRETTY as bri! or athletic or this or that! ! !

For some that know loneliness well, it is their dearest animal friend that can truly see their heart and return love with devotion and companionship. Haunting poem Loke. (Report) Reply

He was a soothing individual perhaps no human being could see but he soared far with crawling creatures. Your poem takes me to quite a different dimension and allows me to sit and ponder there awhile....Excellent poem..... (Report) Reply

A nice study of human psychology, lacks, inabilities and failures divert a man to some other direction and sometimes he appears outstanding in that diverted sphere. (Report) Reply

When he didn't get company from his own species, he turned to the animals and small creatures of Nature! To love someone or something and to be loved in turn is a natural human instinct! Interesting write, Loke! (Report) Reply
