I'm The Monster Poem by Natasha Xaba

I'm The Monster

It was when it's dark,
Then it came.
I knew it would lurk,
Cause it's game.

It was when I faded
Deep into my thoughts,
To realise am gutted
By my own swords.

The one in my head?
Or the one in my heart?
I can't really recall.

Little did I know I'm it,
Little did I know I feed it.
It is me and I'm it.
I'm, the monster.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem is about a person who had an abusive childhood. As they are going through difficult times, they realise that the anger that they've bottled inside of them has made them a dangerous person. This is evident in stanza two as the person realized that the rage they have is because of bottling things up and not talking. The last two lines 'I'm it and it is me, I'm, the monster.' The person is admitting that despite of everything that happens, the rage and anger that it's their choice to hold the anger and hatred inside when they can simply let go and forgive the past.
