Lies - Poem by Peggy Dotson

I told you I love you
and that you will be
the only one for me
well, I lied.

I said no other person
can do to me what you do
or make me feel the way you do
Yep, I lied.

I said that you were the love of my life
and I would wait for you to decide if
you wanted me as your wife
You know what, I lied.

I said I don't care if we get to spend
quality time together or not
I lied

I said I don't mind giving you
the keys to my car knowing
full well you weren't coming back
that night
I lied

I said those nights waiting for you
to come home, I wasn't gonna hold
it against you
I lied.

I said he was just a friend
and that there was nothing
going on between us
I lied.

I found someone who would
treat me the way I deserved to be treated
and loves me unconditionally
This time I haven't lied.
