Saying No - Poem by Becca Hitch
For my best friends Paige and Anthony
i love you guys so much
I want to say yes
I want it with my heart
But i need you more
You’ve been here from the start
I’m pretty sure you’ll find
That you love him too
He says his heart is mine
But it’ll always be reserved for you
Until then I’m a distraction
Then I’ll be left behind
You don’t want to admit you love him
Because your too lovely and much too kind
You two will be together
And the world will make more sense
No more miserable sighs from you
No more of those stares from him; so intense.
You both claim I’m wrong
But fate says im right
He’ll let me go and I’ll fly away
Like a little kid and a kite.
I’ll be happy for you both
But ill wonder what could have been
I’ll keep my distance and it’ll be okay
I promise i won’t turn green.
It’s hard to hear him say i want you not her
It even harder to ignore the hesitance in his voice
I did this for myself and my best friend
It s not her fault, it’s my choice.
One day when we’re all grown up
Well laugh at this and say
We were so immature
But for now it doesn’t seem that way
Life is about sacrifices
Being selfless for the ones you love
Not getting upset and crying
Because friendship is more beautiful than spotting a single dove.
So this poem’s for you
Cheers is all i can say
Once normal is back youse will be great together
And so all the better will be your day.
