Matthew Settle

The Warrior Charlie D - Poem by Matthew Settle

Past the lark and dove, the sky newly empty
Vacated by the previous, non-existent tenant
Evicted by the great warrior Charlie D

Weathered crag, underlined by staggering grey
Hiding the rebellious contract
Signed by his majesty Charlie D

To go to war with neither sword nor gun
Wielding only a string of sense and faith
Was the victorious Charlie D

Two bearded men, a battle to the death
One survived to claim his realm
The certain, sure figure of Charlie D

His foe lost and lost forever
All men on their knees before him
All hail the undefeated Charlie D

Nobody bless you Charlie D
