Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
...
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may tread me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.
...
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
...
Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
...
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
...
The free bird leaps
on the back of the wind
and floats downstream
till the current ends
...
It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of ANNABEL LEE;
...
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:
...
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

Writing a poem is not about bringing some words together to create some charming sentences. It's so much deeper than that. Writing poetry is a bridge that allows people to express their feelings and make others live every single word they read. Poetry is to educate people, to lead them away from hate to love, from violence to mercy and pity. Writing poetry is to help this community better understand life and live it more passionately. PoemHunter.com contains an enormous number of famous poems from all over the world, by both classical and modern poets. You can read as many as you want, and also submit your own poems to share your writings with all our poets, members, and visitors.
How often do I wish I were
What people call a character;
A ripe and cherubic old chappie
Who lives to make his fellows happy;
With in his eyes a merry twinkle,
And round his lips a laughing wrinkle;
Who radiating hope and cheer
Grows kindlier with every year.
For this ideal let me strive,
And keep the lad in me alive;
Nor argument nor anger know,
But my own way serenly go;
The woes of men to understand,
Yet walk with humour hand in hand;
To love each day and wonder why
Folks are not so jocund as I.
So be you simple, decent, kind,
With gentle heart and quiet mind;
And if to righteous anger stung,
Restrain your temper and your toungue.
Let thought for others be your guide,
And patience triumph over pride . . .
With charity for those who err,
Live life so folks may say you were--
God bless your heart!--A Character.

I
To the cities I came in a time of disorder
That was ruled by hunger.
I sheltered with the people in a time of uproar
And then I joined in their rebellion.
That's how I passed my time that was given to me on this Earth.
I ate my dinners between the battles,
I lay down to sleep among the murderers,
...
This is where I held
my breath--
a stand of red pine,
needles and snowdust
scribed about my boot,
cold crescent
resisting a swollen
finger itchy-numb
with November.
...
A waterfall of memories,
Start flowing back to me.
A child i was back in the day,
As happy as can be.
...
It's time to leave the house
so slowly I walk the short distance to the door
...
She walks through a bazaar of candles,
through the hustling,
the bustling,
the voices of local sellers.
...
The telephone was invented that distance would disappear.
Its now in every hand, but now we find distance has returned, we see no one permanently looking down.
We miss so much we humans should not serve a machine.

*Teaching/introduction*
Life will take us through many travails but as iron that must go through the Smith's foundry fire for refinement and restoration to full iron strength. And as God's children that must pass from Egypt, through the wilderness, embark on missionary journeys, broke free from chains of prison, past Malta after shipwreck— to gain God's appointed places where freedom, versatility abound to wear the crown of grace, faith and victory.
Just trust HIM. Don't give up the ghost. Never yield to any tribulation phase out of fear. No tribulation is beyond God and God's own.
Even in the fire of life's tribulations, we worship HIM. For our escape shall lead to crowns of grace, faith and victory.

Good Morning Daisy:
Refreshing is your beauty,
Bathed in morning dew.
...
Broken with age held together with tape and glue, a few nails too
where wood still solid will hold, the rest infested with termites and mold
Old parts no longer in stock to repair, a relic that has stood there
for a century of more, a battered and tattered door

Dimming display light-
the laptop watching our
moonlit beach walk.

I dwell
In the absence
You left behind
...
If you die before me
I would jump down into your grave
and hug you so innocently
that angels will become jealous.

Beautiful is the 'thank you'
Wrapped with gratitude,
Offered to peace prone people
Who offer what is real-themselves

Indoors by technology, outdoors by speedy transport
I travel the world
Today in Japan, tomorrow in Rome,
Next day by an ancient civilization or in Hawaii or Coast Ivory,

The low lands call
I am tempted to answer
They are offering me a free dwelling
Without having to conquer

The Peace Warrior of Mzansi — among heroes, a colossus!
Sun of the Nation, a rare gift of Providence.
Once entangled in the web of a racist succubus,
Unruffled, he declares before High Justice:

Love and lust are poles apart.
Lust is chaos, love is art.

Ye wood-nymphs, let your voices be

If you had the choice of two women to wed,

And the first from her heels to her dainty head
Was charming in every sense of the word:

The weary task is put away,
And I can sing and I can smile,
Alike, while I have holiday.

Life's flushest feather -
