Triumph Of The Absurd (With Thanks To Sandra Feldman.) - - Poem by Kelly Kurt

Great thinkers of our day, in their subjugation
Of disease, ignorance and the laws of nature
Plumb the extent of human reach
Behind the curtain of anonymity
With insufficient recompense

Peace-makers and philanthropists
The unselfish and caring attendants of humanity
Tireless and unacknowledged
Carry on in obscurity
Under our noses

Chroniclers of civilization and culture
Squeezing blood from graphite
To detail in an elevated tongue
The impressions most cannot articulate
Languish in privation and unimportance

Self-important socialites dominate the headlines
The rude, blue and witless garner the attention and wealth
Those that can’t, don’t, and still prosper
The shallow and mindless feed this folly
Triumph of the absurd

Just one word in response: Kardashian
Think you could have used that as a title too

I totally agree with Sandra's comments below and your poem above. Over here celebrity rules, An actor plays the part of a famous hero and gets a medal for playing the part as if they are the hero while true hero's like those who give up a career to look after a disabled partner for decades gets sod all recognition. The wealth that is garnered, flaunted and selfishly wasted by those who don't 'earn' it is beyond absurd to in a way, evil.

This is the best poem ever Kelly. Its a crime not to read it. Thank you too Sandra. it was always right there in front of me this poem. You have given words to my inner feelings and taught me much more. Every time I think you cant surprise me anymore, you just go ahead and thrill me. Thanks so much Kelly and Sandra. (Report) Reply

Wow! Such praise is truly humbling. I cannot take credit, as the words just come to me. Sandra comments so deeply and intelligently on my poems and sends wonderful emails that are poems unto themselves, and her phrase (Triumph of the absurd.) inspired this piece. The world's priorities are all screwed up and I could not help but take the title phrase and run with it.

Yes, this world of ours is a triumph of the absurd. It is an absurd theater more absurd than playwrights like Beckett imagined. Thanks for this marvelous piece. (10) (Report) Reply

I shudder when I see the zombie-like following of American reality stars and the blindered zealous adoration for rappers and the social media celebrities Famous for being famous because their daddies are rich. And it isn't confined to the west. Thank you for your kind and motivational comments.

    In an upside down world,
    Poets denounce the absurd,
    Hope your sage words
    Are by everyone heard.

So totally delighted with this poem, I will not try to mess it up with round about phrases of praise.
I just want to say that how you have presented the absurdity of the world today could not have been better said.
You have magically encircled the grave social maladies of our Times. A poem for All to read and remember!

....Those that can't don't and still prosper.... Amazing line, perhaps summarizing it all.
All my gratitude for your mention of me in this extraordinary piece, I am truly honored and thrilled.

When I read the title line in a comment from you, the poem wrote its self. Thank you for your gracious words!
