War - Poem by Jeff Muehlbauer

Bombs rattle the earth around me
As I go into battle.
Looking for shelter
Which is nowhere to be found.
I want to be home
Safe and sound.
The putrid stench of death consumes me
As my pupils dilate.
Fellow soldiers fall around
Empty shells hit the ground.
Needless death for a corrupt government
Is sadly the constant.
War is evil and full of pain
So many men die in vein.
