Dreams That Are Deep, You I Know - Poem by James McLain

Today my mother came to help me shop for food
as she does at the first of each month
she will be eighty in three weeks being twenty two
years older than me.

She shouldn't drive it's not that far to save a lot
in the store
I told her last night that I had visited her brother.

I tried to explain to her
that he wasn't in the same place as her mother where
she hurriedly ask me
not to speak of stuff such as this out in public.

I have tried to heavily medicate
myself to such trips where in sleep I am able to travel
where here where I sleep my bodies not safe
when in sleep I am able to travel.

In the realm of my uncle my sisters brother his place
isn't bad though not quite as good as his mothers
mine is mine fear
that without a doubt that some women should not
of had children.

Where before the minds eye when I'm in deep sleep
I can visit my family
knowing where they will go to those different palaces
where nothings the same for these souls.
