I Wanted - Poem by Aleisha Williams

For those suffering through the heakling process of sexual abuse.

I wanted protection and was robbed
I wanted love and received hatred
I wanted peace and was tormented
I wanted joy and got sadness
I wanted to hope, it was destroyed
I wanted freedom but was held captive
I wanted happiness but was shown anger
I wanted a voice instead I was silenced
I wanted an ear to cry to but was left alone
I wanted death but had to live
For the above reasons I was a victim
I wanted a release when I felt burdened
I wanted clarity when all I had was confusion
I wanted light when the shadows were cast
I wanted comfort in my time of distress, I was left in the cold
I wanted support and emptiness reared it's ugly head
I wanted understanding and got guilt in return
For these reasons I want to survive
