Temptation In A Bottle - Poem by Cally A. Nixon

Temptation takes over,
one sip leads to two...
After a while it's become four gulps,
how do I stop? What do I do.

Four gulps lead to,
a whole bottle...
After that it's two,
now the urge is on full throttle.

After almost six,
your eyes start to blurr...
Your mind spins,
you grab a partner.

It gets out of hand,
more and more goes down....
After a while,
your knees finally hit the ground.

To stand is like lifting an elephant,
your head pounding, body aching, stomache lurching...
You can barely lift your arm,
if you're lucky.

You pass out,
people notice but just stare...
Everyone walks right past,
as if they don't care.

Darker and darker,
it seems to get...
Till nothing is visible,
and you forget.

Light is ahead,
you reach for it...
You bring it closer,
you see it, you feel it.

The gates to Heaven,
are open and ready...
You walk in,
slow and steady.
